Filing for city council and school board positions begins today, Jan. 29.

Candidate applications will be available through Feb. 28 for the May 10 election.

Here is a list of the council and school board seats up for grabs.

Keller

The Keller mayor position, Place 5 and Place 6 seats will all be available for this year’s general election. Keller City Council members are elected for three-year terms.

Place six was added to the City Charter in November 2010. The mayor and Places 5 and 6 were extended to three-year positions in 2010 and elected for the initial three-year term in 2011.

Mayor Pat McGrail, John Hoffmann, Place 5, and Doug Miller’s Place 6 spots will all expire in 2014. All three council members will file for re-election.

McGrail was elected to office in May 2007, Hoffmann in November 2011 and Miller in May 2011.

The general election will be held by Tarrant County, which allows for shared early voting locations throughout the county. Keller Town Hall, Bear Creek Intermediate School and Shady Grove Elementary will be early voting locations in the city.

Keller citizens who are registered voters may vote at any Tarrant County location for the city election. The school board votes will be on the same ballot.

Roanoke

Three seats, one in each ward, are available for election in Roanoke.

Holly Gray-McPherson, mayor pro tem in Ward 1, Brian Darby of Ward 2 and Steve Heath of Ward 3 will have their seats expire this year.

Roanoke council members are elected for three-year terms. McPherson was elected in 2002, Darby in 2001 and Heath in 1997.

Candidate packets can be picked up at the city secretary’s office, 108 S Oak St. in Roanoke.

Haslet

Three Haslet City Council incumbents' seats expire this May.

Mayor Pro Tem Warren Robb, Place 1, has been on the Council since 2009 and was re-elected in 2012. Councilwoman Kathy Hopper, Place 3 was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2012. Councilman Pat Richey, Place 5 was elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2012.

The first day for candidates to file is Jan. 29, said City Secretary Dianna Buchanan.

Trophy Club

Three seats are also up for election this May in Trophy Club.

Mayor Connie White, Mayor Pro Tem Jeannette Tiffany, Place 2, and Councilman Bill Rose, Place 1, all have terms expiring in 2014.

Westlake

Seats up this term in Westlake are those held by Mayor Laura Wheat, and at-large seats for council members Clif Cox and Michael Barrett.

The Mayor and council members also serve on the board of Westlake Academy, the public/charter school with grades K-12 with the International Baccalaureate curriculum of programs.

Keller ISD

Two places on the Keller school board are on the ballot, Place 4 and Place 5.

Place 4 incumbent Craig Allen said he plans to run for re-election. Allen is the board’s vice president and has been a trustee since 2008.

Place 5 has been vacant since former Trustee Lara Lee Hogg stepped down in July when she moved out of the district. The remaining board members decided not to appoint a temporary replacement after 31 residents expressed interest in serving. With numerous applicants, trustees opted to not give one the advantage and instead let voters choose in May.
