Arlington Bowie, ranked No. 15 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 5A state poll, continued its streak through District 3-5A on Friday with a 51-39 victory over Fort Worth Paschal.

Arlington Bowie has become Lob High School by connecting on an alley-oop dunk in each of its past six games.

On Friday, David Chavlovich connected with Brandon Hall twice for a catch and slam to extend the alley-oop streak.

“[The first one] was pivotal and the second one was a dagger,” Hall said. “It seemed like it took all the life out of the team.”

Bowie’s first lob came in the first quarter when Chavlovich dished to Hall breaking backdoor down the baseline for the slam. The score gave Bowie a 14-11 lead to end the first period.

The game was tied 21-all at halftime, but Bowie (21-3, 9-0 in 3-5A) came out in the second half in a full-court, 3-2 trap defense that produced turnovers and transition baskets for the Volunteers.

“Half-court is [Paschal’s] game, and we wanted to get up and run,” Chavlovich said.

Bowie went on a 9-2 run through the middle of the third period, and pulled away from Paschal (13-8, 5-4).

As the fourth quarter reached the final five minutes, the seniors hooked up again when Chavlovich arced a pass in transition to Hall, who threw down the oop with authority, giving Bowie a 47-29 lead.

“I give him a look and put my eyes in the air and he knows,” Hall said. “Once we make eye contact we know it’s going up.”

Chavlovich finished the game with 16 points, followed by Hall with 15 points. Hall also pulled down seven rebounds.

“Dunks are always a big boost in any game,” Chavlovich said. “Anytime you can get a dunk it just boosts the moral of the team.”
