A Wakeland High School assistant coach and teacher faces a charge of sexual assault of a child in a case that police say involves a girl in the Frisco school district, authorities said Thursday.Frisco police arrested Marc Alan Carden, 30, on Wednesday.Carden, who is married with children, also has been placed on leave by the school district pending the outcome of the investigation, district spokesman Jamie Driskill said Thursday in an email. Carden was an assistant football and baseball coach, and he was a social studies teacher, according to Driskill and the district website. He was at Roach Middle School in the Frisco school district last year.Detectives began an investigation on Jan. 11 when contacted by school officials who were told that a teacher/coach might be having an inappropriate relationship with a girl in the district. An arrest warrant affidavit gave this account in the case:Based on text messages on a cellphone, a 14-year-old girl and Carden began texting each other sometime before October. The two discussed having sex and also talked about his children and wife. In October, a text message indicated the girl and Carden had sex because she said that the sexual intercourse with him was painful.Later messages indicated that the two had sex at other locations in Frisco. Her father became suspicious on Jan. 11 after she had left for a friend’s home and the friend came to his home looking for her. Her father and step-mother made several calls to find the 14-year-old, but she didn’t answer. Her father pulled telephone records and called a telephone number that she frequently called which turned out to be Carden’s, the affidavit states. After seeing that her parents had called Carden, the 14-year-old called her father and said she was coming home. Her father became suspicious because of the number of calls to Carden. The teen’s parents went to Frisco police to report the incident, but by then the teen had deleted all messages to Carden. Police, however, completed a cellphone forensic examination and pulled out all the deleted material. The material that included text messages stated that the 14-year-old and Carden were to meet at a motel on the night of Jan. 11. Hotel records indicated Carden had paid for a room and checked in at 3 p.m. on Jan. 11.Carden was arrested in connection with an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile, Frisco police said.Carden, who was free on Thursday after posting $5,000 bail shortly after his arrest, could not be reached for comment. The assistant coach has not been at work since officials were alerted to the allegation.“Allegations and charges of this nature are disturbing and we take these matters very seriously,” Driskill said.Anyone with information in the case should call Frisco police at 972-292-6010.
