DUNCANVILLE — The Mansfield Timberview girls went straight after top-ranked Duncanville on Friday night, scoring five of the games first six field goals and jumping out to an eight-point lead less than three minutes into the first quarter. But theres a reason Duncanville entered the contest with a 93-game winning streak, one that has spanned back-to-back Class 5A state titles and, for now, an undefeated season.Timberviews early lead was cut to one in a matter of minutes, and by the end of the first quarter, it was gone for good, as Duncanville regained control en route to a 75-53 home win at Sandra Meadows Memorial Arena. Duncanville (23-0, 9-0) has beaten Timberview (20-8, 7-2) twice this season.Terriell Bradley led Timberview with a game-high 30 points, including nine in that surprising first quarter. But Tiara Davenport sparked the Pantherettes from behind the arc, knocking down two 3-pointers, one at the buzzer, and tying the game at 19-19. Davenport had all 15 of her points before halftime. After trailing 34-27 at halftime, Bradley helped Timberview keep it close early in the third quarter. She scored twice to cut Duncanvilles lead to 34-33.But after exchanging several scoreless possessions, Duncanville gave itself a cushion with a string of points late in the third quarter. Ariel Atkins (free throws), Madison Townley (jumper) and Tasia Foman (layup) fueled the run.Two more layups from Foman both coming off steals put Duncanville up 47-33.Atkins had a team-high 20 points for Duncanville. JaLea Bennett scored 12 for Timberview.
