About the Stars: Dallas was thumped 5-1 by Minnesota in the Central Division rivals’ first meeting Oct. 18. ... Now the Stars play the Wild on Hockey Day Minnesota, an unofficial state holiday. ... NHL.com points out that the Stars had 47 points, two more than the Wild, on New Year’s Day. Dallas is now eight points behind the Wild after going 1-7 so far in 2014. ... The latest loss was 4-2 at home to Boston on Thursday. ... Two Dallas veterans, forward Ray Whitney (age 41) and defenseman Sergei Gonchar (39), are questionable with injuries. ... Forward Tyler Seguin hasn’t scored a goal in seven games. ... Seguin leads Dallas with 21 goals, with Jamie Benn second at 17 and Erik Cole third (13). ... Coach Lindy Ruff said Friday he is looking at playing Seguin and Benn on different lines. ... Dallas is eight points out of a wild-card spot in the Western Conference as a crossroads for the season approaches.
