Surviving a late upset bid from Midwestern State on Wednesday night, No. 6 Tarleton State prepares for another test this weekend in a battle of undefeated teams in Lone Star Conference play.

The Texans (14-0, 3-0 LSC) host Cameron (9-5, 3-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wisdom Gym.

“It is going to be a tremendous battle for us,” Tarleton State coach Lonn Reisman said. “We are the only undefeated teams in the conference and every game between us has been a battle over the last few years.”

Reisman said his team’s depth might give it an advantage. Tarleton’s bench outscored Midwestern State 52-23 in its 83-81 victory in Wichita Falls. The Texans picked up 16 bench points from both Tashawn Mabry and Damion Clemons to go along with starter Chuck Guy’s game-high 20.

“It makes me feel like we are not depending on one person,” Reisman said. “Anybody can start here, that is our potential. One night we may have a high scorer and the next night is going to be someone else. When teams are trying to prepare for us it is hard on them because they have no idea who is going to be our main guy on any given night.”

TexAnns come back

Tarleton State women’s basketball held Midwestern State scoreless in the final two minutes of Wednesday’s contest to complete a 57-51 win to remain perfect in LSC play.

The No. 14 TexAnns (13-1, 4-0) trailed by seven at the break before outscoring the Mustangs 33-20 in the second half to secure the win.

Kiara Wright notched a double-double with a game-high 15 points and 15 rebounds and was complemented by Brianna Bledsoe’s 14-point game.

The TexAnns return home at 5 p.m. Saturday to host Cameron.
