SAN MARCOS — Desherra Nwanguma posted her second double-double of the season, but the UT Arlington women couldn’t recover from a slow start before coming up short against Texas State in a 68-60 loss Wednesday night at Strahan Coliseum.The Mavericks lost their fifth straight Sun Belt Conference matchup to begin league play.Nwanguma led UTA (1-15, 0-5 Sun Belt) with 25 points and 13 rebounds and now has half of the Mavericks’ four total double-doubles this year. Tahlia Pope grabbed eight offensive rebounds and scored eight points with five assists and two steals.UTA’s slow start included five turnovers in the game’s first five minutes as neither team was able to score. The Mavericks shot 18.5 percent from the field in the first period and trailed Texas State (6-10, 3-2) 25-13 at the half. UTA’s 13 points in a half were a season low.The Mavericks made a late push in the second half but were only able to close the gap to six points after a 3-pointer from Malaika Green with 28 seconds left. UTA scored a season-high 47 points in the second half, but they weren’t enough to overcome a poor first-half performance.Junior Meghan Braeuer scored a career-high 16 points, all in the second half, to lead the Bobcats.UTA gets a week off before hosting Troy at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at College Park Center.
