Here are free family events to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy:

Fort Worth Martin Luther King Jr. Parade

The annual event will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington and feature marching bands, floats and decorated vehicles.

Recommended ages: All

When: 11 a.m., Monday, January 20

Where: The parade begins at Ninth and Commerce streets, heads west on Ninth Street, north on Houston Street, east on Belknap Street, south on Commerce Street, west on Weatherford Street and south on Main Street before ending at Sundance Square Plaza.

MLK Advancing the Dream Youth Musical Extravaganza

More than 700 area youth participate in this art, music, dance and cultural event honoring MLK.

Elite News MLK Parade and Festival

The 28th annual event kicks off with a parade. The after-parade event is fun for the entire family and includes food, music, free giveaways and more.

MLK Advancing the Dream Multicultural Festival

Watch the film Freedom Riders as well as excerpts from the documentary Latino Americans. The celebration also includes entertainment, food and fashion. Don’t forget to check out the pictorial historical timeline of Martin Luther King Jr’s life and Civil Rights movement events from 1929 through today.

Good to know: The event will be held in the Ballroom, Bistro and Theatre

All Western Stock Show Parade

What better way to celebrate King’s mission than to learn about different cultures including the Cowboy Culture. Cowboys and cowgirls will whoop it up in downtown Cowtown, which is expected to draw upwards of 100,000 spectators.

Good to know: This parade is the kick-off for the Fort Worth Stock Show, which will host the Fort Worth Cowboys of Color Invitational Rodeo at 2 p.m. on MLK Day, Monday, Jan. 20 at Will Rogers Coliseum.
