Mansfield Lake Ridge opened a double-digit lead early in the second half and held off Arlington Seguin 56-48 in a key District 15-4A boys basketball game Tuesday at Lake Ridge High School.

Oluwatimilehin Onilogbo led Lake Ridge (15-5, 4-2) with 13 points, but the play of Ryan Woolridge and Jacob Van were key.

Woolridge finished with 11 points and five assists and Van had 10 points and nine rebounds as both were instrumental in handling Seguin’s pressure.

“Those two guys log a lot of minutes and without them we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in, no question,” Lake Ridge coach Donte Wilson said. “Every one of my kids are valuable, but those two draw so much attention that it makes it a lot easier for the rest of our team and that’s going to be key the rest of the way.”

Lake Ridge built an early lead, but Seguin (10-11, 5-1) countered behind Josh Parrish (20 points) and Chris Royal (16).

Parrish capped an 8-0 run and tied the game at 15 on a three-point play with 4:40 left in the half, but Lake Ridge answered with a 10-0 run.

A steal by Van resulted in a lay-in by T.J. Robinson off an assist by Woolridge, giving Lake Ridge a 25-15 lead with 1:37 left in the first half.

“They had beaten Lancaster and Summit, two of the district leaders,” Wilson said. “So this one was a big one for us.”
