The Fort Worth Trimble Tech boys basketball team is back in the District 7-4A driver’s seat after a 48-46 win over Aledo on Friday night.

Following a pair of free throws and quick 3-pointers by D.J. McMillan and Quayvon Parks, Trimble Tech (13-6, 5-0 District 7-4A), jumped out to an 8-0 lead, silencing the home crowd for much of the first half.

“Every time we come to Aledo we know there’s going to be a huge home-court advantage,” Trimble Tech coach Wendell Ivory said “The good feelings from the football team sort of spills over into the fans in the basketball gym and we wanted to take them out of it early.”

The silence didn’t last, though, as Aledo (10-10, 4-1) hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the opening minutes of the third quarter to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to one.

“I told [my team] to keep fighting because we knew they would have another run in them and I just wanted to make sure that we had the lead with 2 minutes left in the game,” Ivory said. “I felt if we could do that we were going to leave with a victory.”

Trailing by seven with 5:12 remaining, Aledo clawed its way back to within three with 8 seconds left.

After an Aledo 3-pointer came up short, Trimble Tech fumbled the rebound, giving the Bearcats the ball with one-hundredth of a second left.

A technical foul was called on the Bulldogs after a scuffle between the Trimble Tech players and Aledo bench. Aledo guard Carl Williams went 1 of 2 from the line to make the score 48-46, but Trimble Tech deflected Williams’ tip attempt on the in-bounds pass to preserve the win.
