TROPHY CLUB — After Tuesday’s upset overtime loss at Wichita Falls, Trophy Club Nelson coach Scott Curran challenged his team to come out and play defense. The Bobcats did just that, holding White Settlement Brewer to just 14 field goals in a 66-38 District 5-4A victory Friday.Brewer had just 12 points in the first half as the Bobcats built a 16-point lead. “I thought the kids did a great job of defense tonight,” said Curran, whose team improved to 15-6, 4-1 in district. “It’s been a long couple of days since Tuesday and we were ready to get back on the floor. I just told the kids at halftime to keep defending and rebounding.”Nelson’s Emmanuel Nzekwesi led the way with a game-high 19 points, most coming inside as Brewer (11-9, 3-2) didn’t have an answer. Ethan Davis and Thomas Williams both added 11 for Nelson.“Emmanuel is not only a great player, but an even better person,” Curran said.“He does the little things and always gives a great effort and wants to make sure the team is successful.”Leading 15-12 with 4:44 left in the half, Nelson held the Bears scoreless for the rest of the period while going on a 13-0 run.
