Mansfield Timberview battled back from an early deficit before pulling away in the fourth quarter to down Cedar Hill 50-40 in a District 7-5A game Friday at David Milson Gymnasium.

Timberview (19-7, 6-1) trailed 16-11 at the end of the first quarter thanks largely to six points each from Cedar Hill’s Joyner Holmes and Lasheena Trice, but the Wolves rallied to take a two-point lead at halftime.

Terriell Bradley kept the Wolves in the game, scoring 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first half. She was 10 of 11 from the free-throw line.

Cedar Hill (10-11, 3-4) trailed 32-30 at the end of three quarters, but Timberview went on an 11-4 run capped by a pair of free throws by Texas Tech signee Dayo Olabode with 3:41 left in the game.

“I thought we played some really solid defense according to what we wanted to do to defend them,” Timberview coach Kit Martin said. “Obviously [Holmes] is a fantastically talented offensive player, so it’s hard to keep the ball out of her hands, but that’s really what we wanted to do, and they did a good job of that in the second half.”

Holmes, a sophomore, finished with 17 points to lead Cedar Hill but was held to four points in the final quarter.

Martin was pleased that the Wolves, ranked 22nd in the TABC poll, were able to win the rebounding battle 24-21 after being outrebounded by six in the first half. Olabode led Timberview with 10 boards.
