The UT Arlington women’s basketball team travels to Lafayette, La., today in search of its first-ever Sun Belt Conference win.

After dropping their first three conference matchups in the school’s first year in the Sun Belt, the Mavericks (1-13, 0-3) hope to find the winning combination against Louisiana-Lafayette (8-5, 1-1).

Part of that combination needs to include consistency if the Mavs hope to pick up the win.

In their first three Sun Belt games — all losses at home — UTA was outscored 99-71 in the first half. The Mavs showed improvement in the second half of the games, evening the scoring 115-115.

Shooting on opponents’ courts has also been a problem for the Mavs. UTA is making only 33.5 percent of its shots on the road this season compared to nearly 40 percent at home.

Briana Walker (14.6 points) and Laila Suleiman (10.6) are the only Mavs scoring in double figures this season. In conference play, the Mavs have four players in double figures, lead by Tahlia Pope’s 12.3 points per game.

The Ragin’ Cajuns, averaging 64.9 points per game, are led by Keke Veal’s 11.9 and Sylvana Okde’s 11 points per game.
