Bridgeport residents were without water for a second day Friday because of a second break on a 14-inch main, a city spokeswoman said.“What we believe happened is the ground shifted around a 90-degree elbow and caused the joint to come loose,” Amber Fogelman said.“I don’t know if it’s the same issue [as Thursday], but the break was at the same spot.”The first leak near the city’s water plant was reported Thursday morning. The plant was shut down, leaving the city without water. Bridgeport schools were released early because of the lack of water, the Wise County Messenger reported.Bridgeport, population about 6,000, is west of Decatur near Lake Bridgeport in Wise County. The Walmart in Decatur ran out of bottled water Friday, Fogelman said. But cases of bottled water were being distributed free at the Bridgeport Police Department, 1000 Thompson St.“We’ve probably given out 10 or 12 cases to a half-dozen or so people,” Fogelman said. “Our fire department had a surplus so they’re donating it to us.”If it holds, the second repair should be finished in time for residents to take Saturday morning showers, Fogelman said.
