Trophy Club Nelson star an O’Brien award finalist

A Trophy Club Nelson student is among the finalists for the Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Award.

Madison Edwards is a three-year member of the varsity basketball and track and field teams at Nelson. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and was named an AP Scholar with Distinction as a junior.

Other finalists:

• John Henk, Boyd High School: Captain of the tennis team, ranked first in his class and a National Merit semifinalist.

• Catherine McGeoch, The Hockaday School: Captain of the field-hockey team and a four-year member of the lacrosse team, National Merit semifinalist.

• Natalie Rathjen, Highland Park High School: Captain of cross country and track teams, National AP Scholar.

• Eric Yang, The Colony High School: Four-year member of swimming team, senior class president, president of National Honor Socitey, ranked first in his class.

The winner of the $30,000 scholarship will be announced Jan. 21 during the seventh annual Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Luncheon at The Fort Worth Club.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation will also award a $2,500 scholarship to each of the four remaining finalists.
