The UT Arlington basketball team hopes a noon start time can jump-start its floundering offense when it hosts Louisiana-Monroe Thursday at the College Park Center. The Mavericks have dropped their first two games in the Sun Belt Conference, but after an opening rout they got much closer on Saturday, falling a buzzer-beater short of sending Little Rock to overtime. Their scoring average and their points allowed average are nearly identical on the season (80.0-79.9), but they’ve struggled to close out games. Coach Scott Cross attributes that to a lack of toughness that his team needs to find before the conference season gets too deep.Although the Warhawks have struggled this season as well, they’re coming off a 103-98 double overtime win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday. The offense is led by Amos Olatayo, who’s scoring 15.3 points and grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game.
