About the Mavericks: Dallas will be completing its ninth back-to-back this season and is 4-4 on the second leg of the sets. ... This is the opener of a two-game road trip that concludes Friday in New Orleans before the Mavs return home to host the Pelicans on Saturday. ... The Mavs have won their last four road games, including a 3-0 sweep of Chicago, Minnesota and Washington. ... The Mavs are 2-10 in their last 12 meetings with the Spurs and have lost the last six. ... Former Spurs center DeJuan Blair had 14 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes during the Mavs’ 116-107 loss to San Antonio on Dec. 26. ... Shawn Marion has tied Metta World Peace for 19th place on the NBA’s all-time steals list. ... The Mavs are playing four games in five days.

About the Spurs: After carving out an 11-game winning streak, San Antonio has been in first place in the Southwest Division most of this season. ... The Spurs have won four of their last five games with the lone loss coming Thursday, 105-101, to the New York Knicks. ... The fundamentally sound Spurs are second in the NBA in assists (25.2 apg), fourth in points allowed (96.6 ppg), and seventh in scoring (104.4 ppg). ... The Spurs’ long-time trio of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are still paving the way. Parker averages 17.7 points and 6.2 assists per game, Duncan is averaging 14.2 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 1.9 blocks, and Ginobili averages 12.6 ppg. ... Newcomer Marco Belinelli is averaging 10.3 ppg and leads the league in 3-point shooting at 50 percent.
