“Love one another as I have loved you.” That, Bob Ray, is all we need to say about race. (See Wednesday Bob Ray Sanders column, “Year’s best movie is one many are afraid to see.”)

We cannot change the past, but we can love one another as Jesus asked us.

By constantly “discussing” race we just create new wounds and never allow the old ones to heal. Not a single person alive today owned a slave.

Slavery is a horrible chapter in our history, yet we’re not the same people today.

Unfortunately, there are racists of every color! That will never change because we’re human and we aren’t perfect.

Most people are just trying to do their best, and that includes treating everyone with love, dignity and respect.

Don’t dare me to watch a movie that is mired in misery. I didn’t see The Passion of the Christ for the same reason. I refuse to pay money to spend an hour or two eating a $10 box of popcorn while watching a movie that makes me so miserable that I have to practically drag myself to the car afterward.

That has nothing to do with race. That’s just common sense.
