Taylor Gault scored 20 points off the bench, and Arkansas-Little Rock rode a 20-2 run to close the first half to send the UT Arlington women to a 64-57 loss Saturday night at College Park Center.

After jumping out to an early 9-2 lead and going up 14-7 on Laila Suleiman’s 3-pointer with 13:52 to go in the first half, the Mavericks (1-12, 0-2 Sun Belt) failed to score for the next 11:27 while the Trojans (6-6, 1-1) built a lead they never gave up.

UTA made a late push in the second half, getting as close as five points with a little under 4 minutes left, but UALR was able to close the game out with free throws to hand the Mavericks yet another loss.

“It’s a mindset,” UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. “It’s a mentality, and we’ve got to figure out how to dig deep and believe in ourselves.”

Desherra Nwanguma led the Mavericks with 14 points. Suleiman added 13, and Tahlia Pope contributed eight points and six rebounds.

Gault led all scorers and went 7 for 8 from the free-throw line. Kiera Clark had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans, who beat UTA for the first time in three meetings.

The Mavericks next play Louisiana-Monroe (4-9, 0-1) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at home.
