He didn’t see the field much, but when he did, he made his time count.

Missouri redshirt freshman quarterback Maty Mauk took over for a struggling James Franklin for the Tigers’ first possession in the second quarter and led Missouri on a lightning-fast six-play, 80-yard scoring drive.

After Henry Josey’s 39-yard run jump-started the drive, Mauk had runs of 35 and 34 yards. After two penalties cost Mizzou 15 yards, Mauk connected with Marcus Lucas in the end zone with a 24-yard pass to give the Tigers a 14-7 lead.

Mauk didn’t get back in the game the rest of the first half despite the struggles of Franklin, who completed 7 of 22 passes for 64 yards and an interception. Mauk had half those yards on just two completions while also leading the team in rushing at the half with 73 yards.

Mauk didn’t return to the field until the final minutes of the third quarter when Oklahoma State had pulled to within 17-14. Mauk’s magic didn’t return, however. He was 0 for 2 as the Tigers went three-and-out.

Mauk has 11 touchdown passes as a backup this season.

Garrett goes down

Oklahoma State offensive tackle Brandon Garrett left the game with a leg injury just six offensive plays into the game. The junior was carted off the field in an air cast and was replaced by Chris Grisbhy.

Photo memories

The Cotton Bowl’s official photographer Brad Bradley worked his 67th game Friday night. He made is way through the press box taking shots of media members working the game. Much of his past work was on display at the Cotton Bowl media hotel in Las Colinas.

44 and counting

Missouri’s E.J. Gaines’ interception in the first quarter extended the Tigers’ FBS-leading streak of 44 consecutive games with a turnover.

Gilbert milestone

Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert’s first-half interception gives him seven for the season, tying him for the most for a Cowboy since 1985.
