Valero Alamo Bowl

No. 10 Oregon vs. Texas

5:45 p.m. Monday, Alamodome, San Antonio

Records: Oregon 10-2, 7-2 Pac-12; Texas 8-4, 7-2 Big 12

TV: ESPN  Radio: KRLD/1080 AM

Key points: It’s fitting that Texas takes on Oregon in the Alamo Bowl in Mack Brown’s final game as the Longhorns’ coach. What better place for a last stand than the Alamo? Brown’s Texas squad has an uphill battle to try to knock off an Oregon team that spent most of the season as a national championship favorite. Sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota leads the Ducks on offense and is a threat passing (2,412 yards, 30 touchdowns, just four interceptions) and rushing (582 yards, nine touchdowns). Byron Marshall and Thomas Tyner have combined for nearly 1,700 rushing yards for Oregon, which is loaded at the skill positions. Texas started the season 1-2 before winning six straight and finishing 1-2. Oregon’s high expectations at the start of the season could help the Longhorns if the Ducks aren’t satisfied to be playing in San Antonio instead of Pasadena, Calif. But Texas will still have to catch some breaks to knock off Oregon, especially with leading rusher Johnathan Gray out.

Tarrant ties: Oregon redshirt freshmen defensive backs Eric and Stephen Amoako played at Arlington Martin. Texas has several local players on its roster: junior tight end Miles Onyegbule (Arlington High), senior wide receiver Michael Zaring (Keller), freshman wide receiver Hunter DeGroot (High Point Preparatory), sophomore running back Johnathan Gray (Aledo), junior fullback Dominic Cruciani (Southlake Carroll), freshman defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway (Mansfield High), freshman receiver Ty Templin (Granbury), and senior defensive lineman Reggie Wilson (Haltom). Gray leads Texas with 780 yards rushing but is out with an injury. Wilson has 18 total tackles, three for loss and a sack.
