About the Mavericks: This is the opener of a three-game road trip for Dallas ... The Mavericks have lost five of their past eight games ... Center Brandan Wright, who did not play against the Spurs on Thursday night because he was ill, missed Friday’s practice. Guard Wayne Ellington also missed Friday’s practice with an illness. Wright and Ellington are questionable for the Bulls. ... The Mavericks have averaged only 79.3 points per game and have shot only 36.5 percent from the field the past three times they’ve played in Chicago. ... The Mavs are coming off Thursday’s 116-107 loss at home to the San Antonio Spurs in a game Dirk Nowitzki tallied 25 points. ... Mavericks opponents have averaged 113 points per game and have hit 46.5 percent of their 3-point shots in the past four games ... The Mavericks are 5-9 away from home this season.

About the Bulls: The Bulls have scored 96 ppg and shot 46.8 percent from the field in their last four games after scoring just 79.5 ppg and shooting only 36.1 percent from the floor in their previous six games. ... The Bulls have lost seven of their past 10 games, but have won their past two. They beat Cleveland 100-84 last Saturday and won at Brooklyn 95-78 on Christmas Day. ... Against the Nets, Taj Gibson had 20 points and 8 rebounds in a reserve role. Texas ex D.J. Augustin also came off the bench and had 13 points and five assists. ... Forward Luol Deng leads the Bulls in scoring with 19.6 points per game, but has missed seven of the past 10 games and is questionable for the Mavericks because of an Achilles tendon injury. ... The Bulls are just 1-7 against West Conference teams, their only victory a 97-73 win over Utah ... The Bulls are second in the NBA in fewest points allowed (92.7) and last in scoring (91.9 ppg).
