Just one night removed from a holiday hangover performance, Fort Worth Dunbar got 34 points from Dennis Jones on its way to a 71-66 win against Mansfield Timberview in a Fort Worth ISD Classic semifinal game at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

Dunbar (9-2) will face Arlington Bowie (11-3) in the title game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

“The younger guys were nervous no doubt,” Jones said. “They hadn’t played much in situations like this, bigger crowd and good competition. This was one of those games where we had to keep it at our pace and run the ball.”

The uptempo approach worked, as both teams slugged it out late with six lead changes in the final quarter before Dunbar pulled away.

Timberview was 0-of-6 in the final 3:43 of the game.

The lead changed hands 14 times in the game.

Jones lit things up in the third quarter, recording all but one of the Wildcats’ eight field goals. That included a lead-grabbing 3-pointer at the 1:23 mark to go up 49-46.

But Timberview wouldn’t go away. Both teams traded 3-pointers before Tyus Momoh made another to make it 62-61 with 3:43 to go.

Logan Ray, who finished with 15 points, sank two free throws and a running jumper to give the lead back to Dunbar for good at 65-64.

Dunbar was 25-of-53 from the floor and hit 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch.

• Arlington Bowie 49, Arlington Lamar 41: Brandon Hall scored 18 points and Dante Hales had 11 for Bowie.

Lamar will play in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m.

Lamar rallied with a 10-0 run to start the second half and outscored Bowie 28-20. But falling behind early was the Vikes’ undoing.

Julius Jackson led Lamar with 15 points and Brandon Chiles had 14.

• Arlington Lamar 49, Fossil Ridge 48: The Vikings’ Julius Jackson scored 17 points to lead three scorers in double figures as Lamar sent Fossil Ridge to the fifth-place bracket.

Fossil Ridge got 10 points from Cameron Montgomery.

• Arlington Bowie 47, FW Arlington Heights 37: David Chavlovich scored 18 points and Jordan Versey added 12 as Bowie beat Arlington Heights in the quarterfinals.

Tyler Kelly led Heights (7-5) with 10 points

• Houston Christian Life 65, Temple 44: Kris Smith led all scorers with 25 points and Austin Mention had 12 as the Cougars (19-4) downed the Wildcats in a consolation bracket game.

Christian Life broke away from a 26-25 deficit with 32 third-quarter points to put it away.

Christian Life will face Mansfield Summit in the consolation championship at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Temple got nine points from Sterling Brown.

• Mansfield Summit 62, Killeen 49: Corinthian Ramsey had 18 points in leading the Jaguars to the consolation championship game by beating Killeen.

Summit proved too much with 24 second-quarter points from nine different scorers. Demarius Cress scored 12 points and Jaylin Mayfield had 10 to pace Killeen.
