Quarterback Tony Romo is still receiving treatment for a herniated disk in his back and will not practice on Thursday, according to Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.

Garrett said Romo’s health is the “same as yesterday (Wednesday).”

“I don’t want to get into what he’s doing medically. I’m not qualified to do that. I’m not a doctor. This is a bad road for me to go down.”

Garrett said Romo is getting treatment at the team’s headquarters and seeing some “doctors downtown.”

Although Garrett said he hopes Romo can practice this week, it won’t be the determining factor on whether he plays or not on Sunday.

“Pain is the biggest issue. There are a lot of different levels to that. Backs tend to impact your whole body. Hopefully, he’ll respond to some of the treatments,” Garrett said at his news conference on Thursday morning. “You want him to practice. He won’t practice today. Tony has played a lot of football for us. You’ll give him a lot more leeway than most.”

Based on Garrett’s tone, a decision on Romo might not come until game time.

“We try to put our best players on the field,” Garrett said. “If anyone has a chance to come back from an injury quickly, it’s Tony Romo.”
