Fort Worth ISD Coca-Cola Classic

at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center, Thursday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

Arlington Bowie: With 6-foot-7 forward Kevin Hervey, a UT Arlington commit, the Vols are potent on offense. FW Dunbar: No. 4 in the TABC state poll, the Wildcats are 7-2 with wins over Dallas Lincoln and Trimble Tech. Austin LBJ: Three of their five losses have been by four points or fewer. Arlington Lamar: The Vikings lost to Euless Trinity this season by one point.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Alex Robinson, Mansfield Timberview: The Texas A&M-bound point guard averages 14.4 points, with a season-high 25 against Keller Fossil Ridge. He was this tournament’s MVP last season and scored 26 in the title game. Terrance Hubby, Mansfield Summit: Averaging 12.4 points. He had 20 points in last year’s third-place victory over Arlington Bowie. Dennis Jones, Dunbar: Averaging 21 points. Scored 24 in the fifth-place game loss to Arlington Heights last season. Julius Jackson, Arlington Lamar: Averages 11.8 points with a season-high 30 against Arlington Seguin.

at Saginaw Chisholm Trail High School, Thursday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

Argyle: Three players scoring in double figures for the state’s No. 7 Class 3A team. Kennedale: The Wildcats roll into this tournament unbeaten and the No. 2 ranked Class 3A team. Mexia: Off to 12-0 start and ranked 18th in state.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Aundre Jackson, Kennedale: Had 25 points in a win over Brock this season. Damian Matthews, Mexia: Averages 12.6 points and 9.5 rebounds. Austin Givens, Decatur: Averages 22 points for the No. 16 team in state. Ty Charles, Kennedale: SFA signee averages 12.4 points.

Moritz Dealership Holiday Classic

at Aledo, Friday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

Converse Judson: No. 2 in the Class 5A poll, the Rockets’ only loss was to 7-10 Austin Westlake. Everman: No. 13 in the Class 4A state poll. Aledo: Last time the football team won a state title, the hoops team made the playoffs.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tanner Leissner, Converse Judson: Averages 16.5 points, one of three double-figure scorers for perhaps the state’s best team. Darian Bradford, Abilene: Averages 13.8 points. Luke Bishop, Aledo: Offensive MVP of last weekend’s Class 4A football state title-winning team will run point for the Bearcats.

Nolan Catholic Holiday Tournament

at Nolan Catholic, Friday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

FW Polytechnic: The Parrots have struggled this season, but a nondistrict schedule full of heavy-hitting programs should have them ready to play. Nolan Catholic: Don’t let the 5-8 record fool you. Football only ended two weeks ago and they are hitting the accelerator. Dallas Sunset: Already winners over Pantego Christian, the Bison could make a title game run.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Landon Russell, Nolan Catholic: Scored 28 points in loss to Argyle this season and averages 20.2. Auston Evans, Greenhill Academy: Junior averages 16.4 points for the 7-4 team. Ty Dalton, Houston Second Baptist: Junior forward averages 21.5 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Trophy Club Byron Nelson Tournament

at TC Nelson High School, Thursday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

Southlake Carroll: A .500 team but balanced as five players average 7.5 points or better. Trophy Club Nelson: Went 3-1 in the Jack Frost Tournament in Georgetown, winning its pool before being clipped by San Antonio Churchill. Putnam City, Okla.: Top two players combine for more than 28 points, but Pirates are off to rough start.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Emmanuel Nzekwesi, TC Nelson: Averages 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sammy Silver, Southlake Carroll: Leads team in scoring (8.9) and rebounding (4.9). Ryan Parker, Birdville: Just two days off the gridiron, had 19 points in hoops debut win over Colleyville Heritage. Nolan Taylor, Keller: Averages 15.7 points and 8 rebounds.

GIRLS

Mansfield Spring Creek BBQ Invitational

at Mansfield, Timberview, Lake Ridge, Legacy, Thursday-Sat.

TEAMS TO WATCH

Cibolo Steele: The state’s fifth-ranked team has two losses this year by a total of six points. Flower Mound Marcus: A four-point loss to No. 1 Duncanville is the only blemish on the Marauders’ record. Arlington Bowie: No. 6 in the TABC 5A state poll with just two losses this season. Galena Park North Shore: Ranked No. 7 in the state, the Mustangs have four losses on the year, but lots of offense.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

McKenzie Calvert, Cibolo Steele: The USC-bound 5-star recruit averages 21.2 points. Claire Ricketts, John Paul II: Forward headed to Iowa State. Nicole Iloanya, Arlington Bowie: Track star had 21 points against No. 8 Southlake Carroll. Chasity Patterson, North Shore: Averages 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds. Adebayo Olabode, Mansfield Timberview: A Texas Tech signee. McKinley Bostad, Kennedale: The senior averages 27.3 points.

TEAMS TO WATCH

Brock: State’s No. 2 Class 2A team and a perennial powerhouse. Eagles’ only loss this season is to Cedar Park Vista Ridge. Argyle: The state’s second-ranked Class 3A team. Saginaw: Ranked 15th in Class 4A.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Kiley Laminack, Saginaw: Averages 14.5 points and 3.6 rebounds for two-loss team.

Nolan Catholic Holiday Tournament

at Nolan Catholic, Friday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

Nolan Catholic: Struggling Vikings are averaging 10 steals per game. Dallas Parish Episcopal: Panthers undefeated heading into tournament. Carrollton Prince of Peace: Have a win over Ursuline this season.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Mary Hulcher, Nolan Catholic: Averages a team-high 8.8 points. Julie Delarosa, Ursuline: Averages 7.3 points. Shelby Ellis, Nolan Catholic: Averages 3.2 rebounds and is second on the team in scoring.

Boswell Holiday Tournament

at Saginaw Boswell High, Thursday-Saturday

TEAMS TO WATCH

Trophy Club Byron Nelson: The 13-3 Bobcats shoot 36 percent from the field. Saginaw Boswell: Pioneers off to a 12-win start, averaging 48.6 points. Abilene: The Eagles have 10 wins and shoot 35 percent.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Taneasha Rhodes, Saginaw Boswell: Averages 11.5 points and is a force on the low post. Sierra Salser, Arlington: Averages 12 points. Sydney Brock, Richland: Senior averages 16.6 points. Tralyn Woodard, TC Byron Nelson: Averages 10.4 points and three steals.
