Texas A&M suspended standout freshman linebacker Darian Claiborne after he was arrested on two drug possession charges.

Claiborne was arrested Sunday on charges of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, according to the Brazos County Jail website.

He was arrested at about 3 p.m. and released less than two hours later after posting $6,000 bond.

Claiborne, tied for the team lead with 89 tackles, will miss the Chick-Fil-A Bowl against Duke on Dec. 31.

Texas trio ineligible

Three Texas football players have been ruled academically ineligible for the Dec. 30 Alamo Bowl against No. 10 Oregon.

UT officials said sophomore running back Daje Johnson, sophomore offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle and redshirt freshman running back Jalen Overstreet are out for the game. A team statement said the three players will not make the trip to San Antonio.

USC duo to stay?

New USC coach Steve Sarkisian said he would like to have the Trojans’ two interim coaches this season, Ed Orgeron and Clay Helton, on his staff next year, according to multiple reports.

Helton, who would be the offensive coordinator, has already said he will return. Sarkisian said on Sunday he will reach out to Orgeron, who was USC’s defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator before becoming the interim head coach.
