Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl

Ohio vs. East Carolina

1 p.m. Monday, Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Fla.

TV: ESPN

Records: Ohio 7-5, 4-4 Mid-American; East Carolina 9-3, 6-2 Conference USA

Key points: Ohio has become bowl regulars under coach Frank Solich. The Bobcats had played in two bowl games in its program history before Solich took over. Now the Bobcats are playing in their sixth bowl game in seven years and are hoping for a third straight win. In 2011, Ohio beat Utah State 24-23 in the Potato Bowl for its first bowl win. Last season, the Bobcats dominated Louisiana-Monroe 45-14. Senior Tyler Tettleton, son of former Texas Rangers catcher Mickey Tettleton, leads Ohio’s offense and has thrown for 2,623 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. East Carolina junior quarterback Shane Carden, from Houston Episcopal, has put up big numbers all season with 3,866 passing yards to go with 32 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. East Carolina, 8-10 all time in bowl games, is trying to snap a four-game bowl losing streak that started with a 25-19 Liberty Bowl loss to Kentucky on Jan. 2, 2009.
