A 24-year-old man found hiding under a bridge was arrested Friday by Bedford police and charged with burglary and possession of marijuana.

Joshua Cortez also was being held on unspecified charges in a warrant from the Azle Police Department, Bedford police Lt. David Smith said.

Officers who were dispatched just before 5 a.m. to a burglary-in-progress call at J&G Jewelers, 1809 Airport Freeway, were directed to a witness who heard the alarm and saw a man run from the store and hide under the bridge at Forest Ridge Drive, Smith said.

“Upon the officers’ arrival, the witness informed officers that the suspect was still under the bridge,” Smith said.

An undetermined amount of jewelry was taken from the store, and some jewelry was recovered during the search for and arrest of the suspect, Smith said. — Terry Evans
