Terry Gilbreath rushed for 183 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead top-ranked Wellington to a 42-20 victory against Falls City.

The win Thursday gave Wellington its first Class 1A Division II title in school history.

Gilbreath scored on touchdown runs of 13 and 15 yards, also catching an 8-yard touchdown pass from Klark Ashmore en route to offensive MVP honors. Wellington (14-0) responded to a 6-0 second-quarter deficit with 42 straight points.

Gilbreath scored all three of his touchdowns during a 13:17 stretch that began midway through the second quarter.

Falls City (14-1) entered Thursday’s game allowing less than 7 points per game, but Ashmore conducted an efficient offense that spread the field and was aided by Gilbreath’s quick acceleration out of the backfield.
