Keller Fossil Ridge wide receiver Ryan Parker’s 71 receptions for 1,133 yards and 15 touchdowns this season wasn’t much help to the basketball team.

On Tuesday, Parker made his basketball season debut, pouring in 19 points from his point guard spot and led Fossil Ridge to a 44-29 non-district win over Colleyville Heritage.

The game was only three days after the football team exited the UIL playoffs and left Parker only one full practice with his Fossil Ridge teammates on Monday.

“Even during football, though, I would at least go to practice and do some shootarounds or something,” Parker said. “I’d like to still be playing football, but I play basketball all the time so it wasn’t that big of a change.”

What it did do, though, was give Fossil Ridge (5-3) a new dynamic to go with guard/forward Chris Kouakou, who had 14 points and came into the game averaging 16.4 points per game.

Heritage (3-4) made a game of it midway through the second half, but couldn’t convert nine free throws down the stretch.

Jacob Sisk had seven points to lead Colleyville, which shot only 24 percent from the field.

Parker’s steal and breakaway dunk early in the first quarter signaled he was ready to play.

It started a 9-0 run where Fossil Ridge built an 11-point lead and began to cruise.

“There’s no doubt Ryan adds to this team and we’re glad to have him,” Fossil Ridge coach Zack Myers said. “I think our team’s where we need it to be right now.”
