Handling criticism is part of a Dallas QB’s job

Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has no sympathy for Tony Romo for the criticism he gets as quarterback of America’s Team.

“It’s the nature of the National Football League. It’s the nature of the Dallas Cowboys. It’s the nature of playing quarterback,” Garrett said. “It’s just what it is, and he wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Garrett understands that Romo is unfairly tagged with the can’t-win-the-big-one label because of an 11-15 mark in December since taking over as Cowboys quarterback and a 1-6 mark in win-or-go-home games in the regular season and playoffs.

Garrett knows those records are more reflective of the team than just Romo’s play.

“It all comes with the dinner,” Garrett said. “He’s got a position that is one of the great jobs on the planet. What comes with that is some of the scrutiny, and he understands that.”

Ratliff watch

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it will be “very frustrating” to see Jay Ratliff playing Monday night.

“I wish him the best on an individual basis,” Jones said Tuesday in his weekly radio appearance on KRLD 105.3 FM “The Fan.” It just would be very frustrating to see him get in there and play when most thought that he couldn’t play when he left us, as far as he was concerned, and his approach to what he was going to be doing this year.”

The Cowboys released Ratliff on Oct. 16 from the physically unable to perform list. He started the year on the list after hurting his hamstring in the conditioning test in training camp. He was already trying to recover from hernia surgery last December, which had ended his season.

In August, Ratliff talked about conflicts with team trainers, and he did his rehabilitation away from the facility when the season began.

When he was released, Ratliff’s agent said the injury was worse than expected and required a 12-month recovery period.

“And so with all of that in mind, I look at that and I have always thought a lot of him as a pro football player, and he should play … on our defensive front,” Jones said. “As far as I’m concerned, he needs to be over helping the Dallas Cowboys.”

Garrett had no interest in rehashing Ratliff’s departure or discussing the upcoming reunion.

Dunbar on IR

The Cowboys put running back Lance Dunbar on injured reserve and signed fullback Tyler Clutts, who played for the Houston Texans last year and for the Chicago Bears two years ago.

Clutts played four games for the Miami Dolphins this year, making one start. He has no carries in his three-year career, but he has eight catches for 48 yards. He played in all 16 games for the Texans and Bears each year.

Lee will play

Middle linebacker Sean Lee left no doubts about his status for Monday’s game against the Bears.

Lee, who has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, said “I’m ready to roll.”
