The holidays have arrived in Haslet, and Saturday, Dec. 7 will bring a couple of special visitors to the town.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be making their first stop of the Annual Holiday Tour of Haslet beginning at 10 a.m.

Santa will accompany volunteer fire department members on their fire truck as they drive through the city collecting cans of food and new or gently used toys.

"I love watching the expressions of the faces of the children when Santa Claus gets out of the fire engine when it pulls up to the station the night of the tree lighting," Mayor Bob Golden said.

The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting caps the day. It will be held at 6 p.m. at the Haslet Fire Department, 1701 Hwy. 156 South.

"This tree lighting sets the tone for the entire holiday season for a lot of Haslet citizens," Golden said. "We have a number of volunteers, as well as staff, who work very hard to make this an outstanding event for our city."

For those making donations, toys should not be wrapped. Also, anyone missing the fire truck during the day can drop off donations that night at the tree lighting.

Pictures can be taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Another holiday tradition in Haslet is the Angel Tree, in conjunction with the Haslet Elementary School.

The tree is at Salon D, Suite 170 at 1195 FM 156 South in Haslet.

Angels can be picked up during working hours (Tuesday-Thursday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.). They are due back by Dec. 13.

"We are proud to have one of our businesses take the lead in this effort to provide for needy children who attend Haslet Elementary School," Golden said. "One of the joys of the Christmas season is the giving spirit, which our community has championed."
