The TCU volleyball team was swept in three sets by Texas Tech in its final match of the season Saturday, losing 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 in Lubbock.

The Horned Frogs (16-15, 4-12 Big 12) got a double-double from Alexia Heist and Ashley Smith for the match, but struggled offensively as the Red Raiders (10-22, 3-13) swept the season series.

Smith, a freshman, led all players with 12 kills for her 13th double-digit kill match, and also had 11 digs. Heist had 16 assists and 13 digs. Shane Peters recorded her 21st match of double-digit digs with 15.

AD backs Pelini

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini is safe for now. Athletic director Shawn Eichorst issued a statement Saturday expressing support for Pelini and his staff and quashing speculation that the sixth-year coach’s job was in jeopardy following a disappointing regular season.

The Cornhuskers are 8-4, 5-3 in the Big Ten, after their 38-17 loss to Iowa on Friday. Pelini is 57-24 at Nebraska, but the school has not won a conference title since 1999.

Muschamp safe

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley refuses to panic. Not after the worst loss in school history. Not after the first losing season since 1979. Not after missing a bowl game for the first time in 23 years. And not after a humbling loss to rival Florida State.

Foley held an impromptu news conference before Florida’s season finale — a 37-7 loss to No. 2 Florida State on Saturday — and reiterated “total confidence” in coach Will Muschamp.

Hoyas dismiss player

Georgetown has dismissed junior forward Greg Whittington from the team. The school announced the decision before Saturday’s game against Lipscomb. Coach John Thompson III declined comment on Whittington’s dismissal after the Hoyas’ 70-49 win.
