Bill Callahan said coach Jason Garrett wanted to return to the relationship he used to have with Tony Romo on the sideline, one reason the Dallas Cowboys changed their play-calling mechanism.

“He’s had that relationship with him on the sideline in his career, and he wanted to get back to that a little bit more,” Callahan said Wednesday in his weekly meeting with reporters. “And he should, and rightfully so, as the head coach.”

Callahan, the offensive coordinator and play-caller, was joined in the coaches box last week by quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson. Wilson used to be on the sideline, receiving the play calls from Callahan and sending them to Romo. Now, Garrett receives the calls and passes them to Romo.

But Callahan said that does not mean Garrett changes the calls.

“We’re all on the same page. Nothing’s changed in terms of the play-calling, whatsoever,” he said. “There’s not changes of plays, or anything like that.

“Here is what I think everyone needs to understand: That there’s great communication among the offensive coaches. Jason’s a part of this process, of game-planning, and being on the sideline during the game. I think he’s just become more active with Tony in that regard.”

Escobar questionable

Linebackers Sean Lee, Justin Durant and DeVonte Holloman, cornerback Morris Claiborne and returner Dwayne Harris have been ruled out against the Raiders.

Tight end Gavin Escobar joined the injury report with a hamstring. He is listed as questionable.

Ruled probable are Miles Austin (hamstring), Dez Bryant (back), Jason Hatcher (neck), Nick Hayden (ribs), George Selvie (neck), DeMarcus Ware (leg) and J.J. Wilcox (knee). Selvie practiced in full Wednesday.

Briefly

• The NFL made a statistics change on the Dez Bryant fumble against the Giants, giving him an 11-yard loss on the catch. It dropped his receiving total from 102 yards to 86.

• NFL Network’s next A Football Life episode is called “The Great Wall of Dallas.” It is a look at the Cowboys’ offensive line of the early 1990s. It airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

• Oakland running back Darren McFadden practiced Wednesday and will play. Rashad Jennings is still expected to start.

• Parking lots will open at 10 a.m. The plazas will open at noon. Stadium gates open at 1 p.m. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
