Cowboys-Giants: Five things to watch

1The feeding of Dez

Everyone wants to see it. The Cowboys say they want to do it. But can Dez Bryant actually get the ball? He got two targets in the last game in New Orleans, the Cowboys’ worst of the year. Dallas might try to beat that number in the first drive.

2Ware’s leg

The Cowboys need impact plays from DeMarcus Ware, but they no longer know how long he can stay on the field. His latest injury problem is a quadriceps that limited him to 52 percent of the snaps against the Saints. In five games before the injury, he had played 72.1 percent of the snaps.

3The Austin effect

The Cowboys gave Miles Austin extra time for his hamstring to heal. They believe he makes a difference in the passing game. He hasn’t caught a pass since Week 3, and the Cowboys have had only two 300-yard passing games since.

4Plays at safety

J.J. Wilcox is returning to the lineup, giving the Cowboys not only a starter back in the lineup but a chance at some athleticism at safety. It was on display in the last game Wilcox played, at Philadelphia in Week 7, when he made a ranging play to break up a long pass in the end zone.

5Weather approach

It’s going to be a cold and windy day — make that night, sunset is a mere seven minutes after kickoff — so it will affect the passing game for both teams. The Giants have an effective running game they can fall back on. The Cowboys have yet to prove they do.
