Marche’ Amerson scored 15 points and Alecia Smith and Te’onna Campbell each chipped in with 12 to lead the Houston women’s basketball team to a 66-61 victory over North Texas on Wednesday at Hofheinz Pavilion.

North Texas (1-2) trailed by as many as 15 points early in the second half, but the Mean Green, led by Acheil Tac with 14 point and Briesha Wynn with 12, used a 14-1 run to cut the Cougars’ lead to 54-52. However, Houston held on down the stretch.

North Texas was coming off a nine-day break since losing to Texas A&M. The Cougars (1-3) outscored the Mean Green from the foul line 18-1 and forced 15 turnovers in the first half to take a 32-20 lead at halftime.
