Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel joined Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty on the list of 16 semifinalists for the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, given annually to the top offensive player in Division I football with a Texas connection (high school or college).

Other semifinalists include Texas running back Johnathan Gray, a former Aledo High School standout, SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert, Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro and A&M receiver Mike Evans. The 16 semifinalists were selected from 11 different schools, with Baylor (4) having the most honorees: Petty, running back Lache Seastrunk, receiver Tevin Reese and receiver Antwan Goodley.

The winner will be announced Jan. 10, 2014 at a banquet in Tyler, Campbell’s hometown.
