The TCU men’s and women’s basketball teams signed three players between them on Wednesday.

The men signed Chauncey Collins, a 6-foot guard who was home-schooled in Oklahoma City. He averaged 23.4 points for his home-school team and was the first unanimous winner of the Maravich Award, given to the nation’s top home-schooled basketball player.

Women’s coach Jeff Mittie signed center Katie Powell of Duluth, Ga., and forward Sydney Coleman of Cypress Ranch.

Powell averaged 17.8 points and 9.8 rebounds her junior season. Mittie said she could see time at forward and center.

Coleman, 6-foot-1, is the 15th-ranked player in Texas, according to ESPN Hoopgurlz. She averaged 9.4 points and 6.6 rebounds her junior season. Mittie said she could see time at forward and wing and will be a key factor in the transition game.

The UT Arlington men’s basketball team picked up a letter of intent from 6-foot-4 guard/forward Julian Harris out of Mansfield Lake Ridge.

The women’s squad signed three players, including two from Tarrant County.

Artavia Ford, a 6-foot-2 post out of Colleyville Heritage, averaged 11.7 points and 5.1 rebounds last year.

Hurst L.D. Bell’s Cierra Johnson joins Ford. She averaged 15.7 points last season.

Guard Rebekah Van Dijk out of Hartley High School also signed.

Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period. It runs through Nov. 20.
