High school football playoffs

Five out of six ain't bad. Only Sam Houston saw an end to its football season last week, as District 5A co-champions Lamar and Martin, along with Bowie, Arlington and Seguin move on to represent the Arlington ISD in the postseason.

•  In the Division I playoffs, Martin, which finished its season 8-2, will face Keller Central (5-5) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Newsom Stadium in Mansfield.

•  Bowie has a tough test in bi-district, taking on 9-1 Southlake Carroll at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coppell.

•  In Division II, a pair of 8-2 teams meet as Lamar faces Justin Northwest at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex in North Richland Hills.

•  Arlington (6-4) meets Keller Fossil Ridge (7-3), a team that recently gave Carroll a scare, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Apogee Stadium in Denton.

•  In Class 4A Division II competition, Seguin (6-4) will take on undefeated Whitehouse at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite.

High school volleyball playoffs

Of the three volleyball programs to enter the postseason, two have advanced to the regional quarterfinal games to be played early this week. See dfwvarsiy.com for results.

•  Arlington is set to face Southlake Carroll, a team which has put together a dominating 43-1 season. The Lady Colts have gone 39-8.

Arlington began the playoffs by dominating Keller Timber Creek in a three-game sweep in the bi-district round on Nov. 5. The Lady Colts then pulled off another sweep in the area round last Friday against San Angelo Central.

•  Martin faces Lubbock Coronado in the regional quarterfinal. The Lady Warriors took a sweep in the bi-district round last Friday against Keller Central, only facing a truly stiff challenge in Game 3, which they won 25-21. They went on to win a five-game battle against Amarillo Tascosa last Friday.

•  Lamar, the third team from District 3-5A to make the playoffs, was downed in the bi-district round by Southlake Carroll in three games on Nov. 5.
