All four playoff teams – Mansfield and Timberview in Class 5A, and Legacy and Summit in Class 4A – have concluded their volleyball seasons within two rounds of postseason play.Mansfield lost on Friday to Flower Mound, 3-0 in the Region I area round. The Lady Tigers had beaten Killeen Ellison last Tuesday, 3-0, when they traveled to Waco for the bi-district match.Timberview had also gotten past the bi-district round by beating Corsicana, 3-0, but lost to Colleyville Heritage in straight sets in the area round. For Legacy, it was the same story.Legacy beat Whitehouse 3-0 in the bi-district round but then lost to Lucas Lovejoy, 3-0. Lovejoy is the five-time defending state champ, and was the nemesis to Legacy last year, as well.“We played them (Lovejoy) last year in the same round,” Legacy head coach Amanda Shingleton said. “We had one of our worst games statistically, but they were better than us on Thursday. “We knew we’d have Lovejoy as the third place seed in the second round,” Shingleton said. “We knew coming out we’d meet them early. They’re a big obstacle to overcome.”Summit lost in the first round of the playoffs to Lindale, 3-0, to round out the local teams’ seasons.Legacy, Mansfield and Timberview have something to take away. Mansfield also collected a district championship along the way.“A playoff win is something to build on,” Shingleton added. Shingleton said Legacy will be graduating seven seniors and the offseason will be short before working toward rebuilding.“They are a great group of kids and they’ll be missed,” Shingleton said of her seniors. “We’ll take a week to be depressed, and then we’ll start over to be better next year,” she said.
