The rest area on Interstate 35W in Burleson will close Nov. 15, now that a larger, more modern facility has opened in Hill County, officials said Friday.

The new safety rest area opened Friday about 5 miles south of Hillsboro, the Texas Department of Transportation said..

“The new Hillsboro SRA reflects TxDOT’s commitment to completely update the state’s rest areas to provide more services and a safer experience for Texas travelers,” department spokesman Val Lopez said in a news release.

New rest areas have air-conditioned and heated restrooms, increased parking for cars and commercial vehicles, and enhanced security, including surveillance cameras, Lopez said.

“Now complete, this state-of-the-art installation is expected to become the highest-volume SRA in the state,” Lopez said.

The old Burleson rest area will be converted to other uses.

“The Burleson site will be used by local law enforcement and the Department of Public Safety for spot inspections of commercial vehicles,” Lopez said.
