UT Arlington women lose to Houston Baptist in opener

Senior forward Briana Walker scored a career-high 31 points, but UT Arlington couldn’t make a slim lead at halftime hold up as Houston Baptist defeated the Mavericks 72-60 in a women’s basketball season opener.

Four UTA players fouled out in the closing minutes.

The Mavericks (0-1) started strong with a 6-0 run. Walker, from Fort Worth Wyatt, had 14 points at halftime. UTA led 32-28.

HBU later tied the game at 39-39 and led 42-39. UTA fell further behind and got no closer than 64-60.
