Aledo — Ryan Newsome returned two punts for touchdowns, and running back Jess Anders ran for three more as Aledo rolled to a 72-6 win over Granbury at Bearcat Stadium.The Bearcats (9-0, 6-0) secured the District 7-4A title in the process, while Granbury (8-1, 5-1) dropped to second place.Aledo, ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press 4A state poll for the past seven weeks, built an overwhelming first-half lead behind 347 total yards offense.Up 48-0 at the time, the Bearcats used a Granbury fumble to go 47 yards in four plays where Luke Bishop scrambled for an eight-yard touchdown run to make it 55-0.Prior that, Aledo’s starters poured on the offense and defense.Bishop completed 11 of 12 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Anders had 134 rushing yards.Bishop finished with 16 completions for 190 yards.Aledo fired off right away, holding Granbury to a quick punt before Anders scored on a five-yard run.That made it 7-0 before Bishop tossed a 19-yard strike to Quanel Williams for a 14-0 lead. After Granbury stalled again, Newsome darted right and hauled in a 31-yard punt, taking it 47 yards to the end zone for a 21-0 lead.Granbury struggled with a stifling Aledo defense. The Pirates had just 223 yards offense and came into the game averaging 400 in their previous eight wins.Two plays accounted for 95 of those yards and came in the second half against Aledo’s backups.Granbury did score when receiver Skylar Baskin slipped behind coverage to grab a 60-yard strike from Ryan Suitt.That got the Pirates on the board, but little on offense happened after that.Aledo’s defense held Granbury to zero or negative yardage 10 times out of the 50 plays it ran.Williams finished with five catches for 45 yards, and Taco Anderson had 37 yards and two scores.
