Covenant volleyball cruising in playoffs

Having made it all the way to the state finals in 2012, the Covenant Christian volleyball team is again advancing deep into the playoffs after winning its area-round game last week.

Next up, the Lady Cougars will take on Flower Mound Coram Deo at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Grapevine Faith.

Covenant defeated Frisco Legacy in the area round last week in three games, 25-8, 25-21, 25-17.

The Lady Cougars opened the playoffs with a bi-district round victory over Dallas Yavneh in three games, 25-16, 25-9, 25-8. The win came on the heels of an undefeated run through their district slate.

Lady Mustangs JV caps perfect season

The Grapevine High School JV volleyball team ended the season with a 31-0 record as the squad showed just how much depth is in the volleyball program.

Team members included Sally Matzen, Lindsey Gardner, Samantha Barringhaus, , Jordan McCalla, Hannah Markle, Hailey Johnson, Gracie Covey, Jennifer Schaefer, Peyton Link, Renee Townsend, Alex Lopez and Emily Edwards.

The JV coach is Valen Little.

Faith football quarterback to sign for lacrosse

Grapevine Faith quarterback Bryce Wasserman plans to sign a Division I lacrosse scholarship with Monmouth University in New Jersey on Nov. 13 at 7:50 a.m. at the school.

Wasserman is a Southlake resident and will join the Hawks as they make ready to transition to the Big South Conference for 2014 competition.
