Legacy will lead off the four Mansfield ISD schools as bi-district volleyball playoff games start this week.A Monday matchup with Whitehouse was scheduled for the Lady Broncos in Terrell in a Class 4A Region II playoff. Although the game was completed after the press deadline, results are available at dfwvarsity.com. Also playing Monday was Timberview, as the Lady Wolves traveled to Corsicana for a Class 5A Region I game against Belton.Following Legacy and Timberview, Summit and Mansfield were scheduled with Tuesday tilts in their bi-district games.Summit was taking on Lindale at Forney, with Mansfield traveling to Waco for their game with Killeen Ellison.Lake Ridge finished the season last week just out of the playoff picture with a fifth-place finish at 6-8 in District 15-4A.Having a Monday game meant a busy end of week for Legacy, said Lady Broncos head coach Amanda Shingleton. “We did have practice on Saturday and had a warm-up match on Friday,” Shingleton said. Shingleton said the Monday date was selected primarily due to limited available neutral sites on Tuesday. The Lady Broncos were not fully familiar with Whitehouse, but had the opportunity to scout them late in the season.Regardless of the familiarity of the opponent, Legacy stood to deal with excitement and nerves.“There’s a lot of excitement, nervousness and energy,” Shingleton said. “One more night is all you’re guaranteed and for the seniors, it could be over. But it’s a fun, competitive energy during the playoffs. “It sometimes helps in the beginning,” she added. “You can go out on fire, but you’ll settle down after the first 5-10 points, good or bad.”Adrenaline is free, and Legacy won’t have the market cornered.Timberview’s early start to the playoff week comes on the heels of a second-place finish in District 7-5A behind Mansfield. The Lady Wolves finished at 10-4 in district play after losing to third-place Midlothian last week in the regular season finale, 3-1. Belton is the third place team from District 12-5A.Summit will have its hands full against Lindale, the district champion from District 14-4A. With a win, Summit will advance to take on the winner of Wylie or Texas.Mansfield’s pairing with Killeen Ellison from 8-5A should be a good pairing for the Lady Tigers. Ellison was just 5-8 in district play as the fourth-place team. The winner will move on to play back in the Dallas-Fort Worth area against the winner of Euless Trinity and Flower Mound later this week.
