Singh is named Athlete of the Year

Vishal Singh, a sophomore at Mansfield, has been named the Male State Athlete of the Year after being nominated by the Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s local track team competes each summer through the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF). Singh ran for the Mansfield Express Track Club team in sectional, regional and state meets.

Legacy girls take regional title; boys runner moves on to state cross country meet

The Legacy girls took the Class 4-A Region II cross country championship to qualify for the state meet in Austin. Legacy’s Jake Weith finished fifth for the boys and will also qualify to compete.

Maria Castillo of Legacy finished fourth in the girls competition.

Lake Ridge’s boys team finished 10th.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals from the regional events qualify to compete at the state meet in two weeks.

Mansfield hockey drops game to Plano

The Mansfield hockey team is finding the varsity division of the AT&T Metroplex Hockey League tough going this season after being shut out by Plano, 5-0 last week.

Mansfield drops to 0-6 on the season and will be back on this ice Thursday when they take on Keller.

Timberview win benefits Mansfield

The 12-6 win by Timberview football over Midlothian secured the Wolves a Division I playoff spot as well as paving the way for Mansfield to take a Division II playoff space. Timberview will finish in third place.

In the game with Midlothian, all three extra point attempts after the three scores were all unsuccessful.

Timberview will host Duncanville on Thursday, while Mansfield travels to undefeated DeSoto on Friday.

Summit wins and in

A win over Lancaster Friday would solidify the Jaguars football team’s spot in the playoffs. A loss and a Seguin win would give the Cougars the upper hand, based on the 29-28 Seguin win back on Oct. 4.

Legacy has clinched their spot in the playoffs set for next week.
