Why Jimmie Johnson won

It wasn’t a particular pass or a pit stop or a lap. It was just speed. Johnson had way more than anybody else. He might have lapped the field if there were no cautions.

The points

Jimmie Johnson gained seven points on Matt Kenseth and now leads him by seven. Kevin Harvick is third, 40 points back.

Number

24 Chase victories for Jimmie Johnson, most by any driver. That includes back-to-back Chase victories at TMS.

Quotable

“The fastest car won the race. I promise you that. He was so fast. It was unbelievable.” — Joey Logano

Notable

Laps led: Jimmie Johnson led 225 laps, the second most at TMS. Tony Stewart led 278 in November 2006.

Junior’s day: Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted his 13th top-10 finish in 23 starts at TMS.

Big riser: Mark Martin started 33rd but finished 11th. He is a former winner at TMS.

Tire problems: The TMS surface chewed up the tires. The biggest victims were Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon.
