About the Grizzlies: Memphis dropped its season opener 101-94 in San Antonio on Wednesday as the Grizzlies shot just 41.9 percent from the field. Forward Zach Randolph was held to two points on 1-of-6 shooting, while center Marc Gasol collected 14 points and eight boards. The Grizzlies, who advanced to the Western Conference Finals last season, have a new coach in David Joerger.

About the Mavs: This is the second night of a back-to-back for the Mavs, who also won their season opener at home Wednesday against Atlanta, 118-109. In addition, it’s the first of a two-game homestand that ends Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavs got 32 points and eight assists from Monta Ellis in the opener, and 24 points and five assists from Dirk Nowitzki, who now has logged more than 40,000 career minutes.
