Kameron Hill rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Deion Hair’Griffin rushed for 129 and two touchdowns and passed for another score as Fort Worth Arlington Heights raced to a big lead, then held on for a 45-37 victory over Fort Worth Southwest at Farrington Field on Friday night.
It was the Yellow Jackets’ fifth consecutive victory in District 7-4A.
Arlington Heights (5-4, 5-1 in district) will enter its season finale against Granbury next week having already clinched a playoff spot and with a chance to top the Pirates for second place in the district.
Southwest (5-4, 3-3) dropped into a fourth-place tie with South Hills.
The two teams will meet Thursday in a game that will decide the final playoff spot.
Hill was effective early, breaking off two long runs for touchdowns late in the first quarter.
Arlington Heights took over at its own 49 with 2:21 to go in the opening quarter after a Raiders punt. On the first play of the drive, Hill found a crease and raced down the right sideline.
A pair of Southwest defenders attempted to slow him inside the five, but Hill plowed forward and dived into the end zone for a 10-0 lead.
Hill scored on a 43-yard run on Heights’ next possession.
