MANSFIELD — Arlington Seguin running back Isaiah Spencer’s 3-yard touchdown run with 2:58 left gave the Cougars the lead and quarterback Kelton Moore’s 18-yard TD run iced the game as Seguin kept its playoff hopes alive with a 51-37 victory Thursday against Mansfield Lake Ridge at Newsom Stadium.
Trailing 35-24, Lake Ridge (2-7, 1-5 in District 15-4A) battled back to tie the game at 37 with 5:06 left led by quarterback Jett Duffey, who scored on runs of 12 and 32 yards.
Seguin’s Quinton Gale returned a blocked extra point 90 yards after Duffey’s first score to put the Cougars up by 7.
Following Duffey’s second score, the Cougars answered, driving 63 yards in six plays, highlighted by a 35-yard run by Moore, capped by Spencer’s run.
A fumble by Lake Ridge on the ensuing series was scooped up by Tyvaughn Napier and returned 13 yards to the Eagles’ 25, setting up Moore’s game clincher with 1:40 left.
Moore was stellar for Seguin (6-3, 4-2) as the senior rushed 31 times for 231 yards and was 19-of-22 passing for 186 yards. Moore accounted for four TDs.
Napier had a 14-yard scoring run for Seguin, as well as a 19-yard TD reception from Moore that gave the Cougars the 35-24 lead.
Lake Ridge bolted to a 10-point lead to open the game on a 1-yard run by Duke Carter and a 21-yard field goal by Taylor Lampe.
The teams traded touchdowns from that point with Jalyn Hernandez catching scoring passes of 34 and 9 yards from Duffey.
Duffey finished with 295 yards passing and 111 more on the ground.
Moore had TD runs of 23 and 3 yards for Seguin.
